As co-founder and CEO of Luma, Gina brings more than 20 years in the education field leading, teaching, supporting, designing and building measurably better education programs. She started her career as a special education teacher and always had the mission to improve learning for all learners. Her research interest is to understand different learning cultures and sub cultures. She has designed and delivered over 500 online and blended courses for universities, companies, and trucking carriers which has given her unique insights into how people learn.
Among her career highlights are the design of the Luma eNugget® and STEM CITY® platforms which are grounded in principles of how people learn. She collects research data on the type of content, media, and tools different learning cultures engage in. She uses this knowledge to help companies improve their own processes and training. Another highlight was that she provided the instructional design of the University of Illinois RN-BSN Online Nursing Program. Her vision led the program to be rated in the nation’s top five online and face-to-face programs over the last six years by U.S. News & World Report.
Gina holds a Doctor of Education in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University and earned a Learning, Media and Technology Certificate and minor from the Learning Science Department. She holds a Master and Bachelor of Science in Education with high distinction from the University of Dayton.
As co-founder, Scott has more than 20 years experience inventing and building technology designed to improve society. He holds patents on key algorithms and sensor architectures used in today’s tactical military sensors.
As the principle technology developer for Luma, Scott has led the creation of web tools for both server-side and client-side interaction. He has a passion for making complex technology simple to apply and use. This drives Luma capabilities such as the creation of gaming and collaborative learning experiences to reward students for deeply engaging with a subject.
Scott holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a Master of Electrical Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), and a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the University of Dayton.
